PhD Student Rebecca Parker, of Gilbert-Ross Lab, Participates in AACR Early-Career Hill Day
Congratulations to Emory Cancer Biology PhD student, Rebecca Parker, on her participation in the 2024 American Association for Cancer Research Early-Career Hill Day on Feb 27! Rebecca currently works in the lab of Winship researcher M. Gilbert-Ross, PhD.
“I first heard about AACR’s Early-career Hill Day back in 2021,” says Rebecca, "and sent in my application for two main reasons: I believe that NIH funding is incredibly important for the United States, both for the health of our people and for our position in the world, and because I believe it is important to be an engaged citizen and actually interact with various levels of government to improve society.”
The AACR Early-Career Hill Day is an annual event that brings a group of AACR Associate members to advocate for robust, sustained and predictable funding for cancer research and biomedical science through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI), on behalf of early-career cancer researchers. Over the course of more than 50 total congressional visits during a single day, participants are able to stress how important it is to invest in the future of cancer research and provide their own personal perspectives as the investigators whose careers may be most impacted by the support of this essential funding.
